Mediterranean Cruise 2022

    Edge docked at Civitavecchia by 5:30 a.m. Today at 7 a.m. the temperature was 18°C and clear sky as the sun started to rise.    We had breakfast in the Cosmopolitan restaurant on Deck 4. We had a good breakfast – coffee, a fruit plate (with one slice each of honeydew melon, cantaloupe, watermelon, pineapple, orange, a blackberry and a few red grapes). Larry had Eggs Benedict and I had an omelet.   As Elite Loyalty program members and/or Concierge category passengers, we could wait in the Tuscan restaurant on Deck 3, with less than 100 other passengers. There was complimentary pastries and coffee/tea, rather than in Eden garden & lounge on deck 5 to wait with hundreds of people for our exit number. The ship’s Wi-Fi for passengers stopped at 8:30 a.m. For further access to emails, we had to wait until we got to the airport.     Today was Sea Day #2 on the Edge cruising back to Civitavecchia.   Just before dawn, small whitecaps were visible on the waves but the waves were less than two meters high, the wind NW30 km per hour. The temperature on the ship’s navigation channel was 20°C and was still that at 4 p.m. You could feel the ship gently rocking up in our Deck 11 midship stateroom and the lower desks, too. The Edge is crossing the Balearic Sea   portion of the Mediterranean Sea most of day as it heads toward the Strait of Bonifacio.   We had a full agenda today. Any person who has sailed on a celebrity ship just once is eligible to register to be a Captain’s Club member. I would think over 80% of the passengers would have cruised at least once with Celebrity.   At 10:30 a.m., there was a Captain’s Club complimentary wine tasting with just one other couple of a possible 24 showing up.      There were dark storm clouds in the sky as Celebrity Edge approached Palma de Mallorca, Spain as the sun rose. Today’s forecast calls for 55% chance of scattered morning showers. Just after we docked, there was a rainbow over the distant hills.   Breakfast was up at the Oceanview Café buffet, since we needed to be collecting our Sóller train tour tickets at 9 a.m. in the theatre. We took photos from Deck 14 of the landmarks around Palma’s port and city. Fortaleza San Carlos, named after Carlos Coloma who was Viceroy of Mallorca from 1611 to 1617; 14th-century Bellver Castle; two towers and the Cathedral of Mallorca. The style of architecture of Cathedral of Mallorca is Levantine Gothic. It was built on the site of a former mosque.
